Christmas comes early for Richie Ramsay as The Craig Group Announce Sponsorship in the same week as winning the South African Open.
Christmas came early for Aberdeen golfer Richie Ramsay as he returned to the city following a win at the South African Open this weekend. This is the first time that a Scot has won the South African Open title. The Royal Aberdeen golfer today, (Tuesday December 22) revealed that his determined attitude had secured the biggest win of his career to date.
With more major tournaments on the horizon, one of Scotland’s star golfers also announced that he has landed a two year sponsorship deal with Aberdeen based global shipping and energy services company, The Craig Group.
This partnership follows on from The Craig Group’s original two year commitment where they became one of Ramsay’s main sponsors in 2007 when he turned professional.
Ramsay’s career has gone from strength to strength since winning the US Amateur Championships in 2006. He turned professional in 2007 and has quickly moved through the ranks securing his Challenge Tour card in 2008.
He secured his playing rights for a second season on the European Tour this year thanks in large part to a fantastic performance on home soil at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in October, where he finished fourth.
The new two year partnership signed this week sees the Craig Group continue as key sponsors of this talented Aberdonian and will allow him to continue in earnest on his current training and competition schedule.
Richie said: “I was totally focused and determined to win out in South Africa and so I am delighted to have secured my first European Tour title. I have been working really hard over the last few months so it is great that it has paid off. The sponsorship from the Craig Group has been very important to me and I really appreciate their support though the early stages of my professional career. With their help I was able to concentrate on my golf and so I am delighted to have rewarded their faith in me by winning this past weekend. I am very appreciative of their continued commitment and hope that I am able to build on this win in the future.”
At present Richie practices at the Golf Club of Georgia and lives in Edinburgh when not travelling for tournaments. His coaching team consists of Ian Rae with mental coaching from Bob Rotella.
Talking about the commitment the Craig Group has made to Richie, Douglas Craig, MD of the Craig Group said: “We see Richie as one of Europe’s brightest golfing talents and we are delighted to be able to continue to support him into the next phase of his career. His ongoing commitment to a tough training schedule as well as his dedication to the sport means that the partnership between Craig Group and Richie has succeeded our expectations and has rewarded our investment in him.
“Richie is a tremendous role model for all young athletes in the North-east and we consider our sponsorship an investment in the future, not only of Richie and his talents, but also of future generations of golfing talent in Scotland.”
As part of his sponsorship deal Richie will be awarded with a cheque from the Craig group as part of a bonus incentive scheme. Richie’s next step is to take part in the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in mid January.
The Craig Group is a global shipping and energy services company that has more than 75 years experience in the world-wide marine and energy sectors. With a proud maritime heritage, The Craig Group is one of Scotland’s top 100 companies, and is ranked in the top 20 offshore service providers in the North-east of Scotland.
